Our interview has been sent

I just sent out the interview questions to the dentist that we are questioning. This will give us some information to back up what we think about Mountain Dew. Recently I have being doing more research and reading up on Diane Sawyers visit to Central Appalachia. She followed specific people and the struggles that they were going through. Majority of people in that area either have no job or they work in a coal mine. This sounds like a very stressful and difficult life. To make things seem better, they are turning to prescription drug abuse, which is another huge problem in this area.

my relationship with THE DEW

When I hear about the Appalachian children's addiction to Mountain Dew, it suprises me a bit, but than again it also dosen't. Occasionaly, I will consume a Mountain Dew. I thoroughly enjoy the taste of it, and the high caffeine content gives me a little energy. I can understand the addictive qualities of it, because it has one of the highest sugar and caffeine amounts in most sodas. Supposably, it works as an anti-depressant for them, but I will figure that out during my upcoming interview.

our interview

Our project has been coming along somewhat nicely. I have completed writing the rough draft of the paper, which is focused on the whole topic of the Appalachian children. One of the sub-topics of our blog is the addiction of Mountain Dew. From what we have seen, and what I would imagine, Mountain Dew has a negative effect on the teeth, mind, and body when consumed in large quantities. In order to back this up, I have scheduled an interview with Dr. Balaji Srinivasin. He is in the field of dentistry and owns his own dental office. He should be able to provide valuable information with helping us distinguish the negative effects of Mountain Dew.

Todays Journey Into the Depths of Knowledge

Today we looked around for more sources concerning our topic of the children in the Appalachian region of the country. We used a few sources from ABC News, a source from a dental website, and some statistics websites. Once we go through these sources completely, we will weed a few out and focus on the best ones. We don't want to focus entirely on the little things like tooth decay, but that is a minor problem in the overall scheme of things. Tomorrow I will look at more sources and began to dig through them to find the best information we can use.

Charities

We found a list of various charities that are trying to help the people of Central Appalachia. This link below will bring you to it.

Mountain Children

In the beginning of the year, we watched a short film in my English class about the children in Appalachia. It really shocked me looking at how different their lives were than ours. You always hear the jokes about states like West Virginia. Oh, they marry their cousins. Oh, they live in trailers. Oh, they overdose on anything they can find. This video showed me that those aren't just "jokes." Those are real life problems that need to be focused on.
Nobody wants to think that this stuff is going on so close to home. The United States isn't supposed to have problems like this, which makes the idea hard for people to grasp. So we are considering to bring attention to the problems that are close to home, the Appalachian children suffering from being born into "the wrong place at the wrong time."

Diamonds are Forever

My group for this paper/project is Joshua, Tj, and myself. The Blood Diamond conflicts in Africa seem particularly interesting to us, mainly because of a song we all like. When someone says Blood Diamond, people instantly think of the movie and songs, which is the problem. Our society thinks of social items such as movies, music, and social networking site as their main outlet to finding out what is going on.
These problems in Africa, mostly Sierra Leone, are larger than any movie you will see or song you will listen to. Children are losing their families, limbs, and even their lives. These rebel groups need to be halted to save the lives of these children.
